Cross-Reference: Polygamy Day, August 19, polygamy activism
On August 19, 2023, supporters of UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, are celebrating "Polygamy Day 23" – the twenty-third year of annual Polygamy Day ® celebrations.
August 19th is the formalized date of Polygamy Day ®. Since 2001, supporters of unrelated consenting adult polygamy (UCAP) celebrate this date every year. With that first celebration occurring in "Year 1" of the new century, each "Polygamy Day" since has been numerically labelled up to the current "Polygamy Day 23" of August 19, 2023.
This celebration started in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, as an annual get-together for pro-polygamists - having no connection to Mormon polygamy or Muslim polygamy. Over the years, the celebration expanded into a nationwide, religiously-neutral event for all forms of unrelated consenting adult polygamy in their own local geographies.
Polygamy Day ® is promoted by Polygamy Day, Inc., incorporated in 2002 in the State of Maine. Polygamy Day, Inc. filed for the federal trademark on "Polygamy Day 6." The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially trademarked, Polygamy Day ®, on June 26, 2007 - four years after the Lawrence v. Texas and eight years before the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court Decisions.
Polygamy Rights supporters celebrate each August 19th to review legal and political advances from the preceding year. Strategies for the upcoming year of activism are also contemplated.

This past year brought disappointment. President Biden’s "Respect for Martriage Act" still enforced bigotry against UCAP polygamy and the "Sister Wives" family, of TLC’s reality show, fully imploded. Yet the year also brought hope. The National Polygamy Advocate ™ PODCAST crossed its 5-year milestone on March 23rd, transitioned into sharing tools for supporters, and crossed the 100 hours of audio-content milestone on July 26th. The repeatedly significant date of June 26th for the UCAP movement reached the 30-year anniversary. Forward-stiving unrelated consenting adult pro-polygamists certainly have much to positively consider on this twenty-third year of the celebrations, August 19, 2023 - "Polygamy Day 23."
