On August 19, 2013, supporters of unrelated consenting adult polygamy (UCAP) throughout North America are celebrating "Polygamy Day 13" – now being the thirteenth year of Polygamy Day ® celebrations.
August 19th is the official date of Polygamy Day ®. Ever since the first "Polygamy Day 1" on August 19, 2001, supporters of polygamy rights for unrelated consenting adults have been celebrating this day each year, Because that first celebration occurred in the "Year 1" of the new millennium, each "Polygamy Day" thereafter is now identified numerically on up to the current "Polygamy Day 13" on August 19, 2013.
In what started in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, as an organized get-together among polygamy activists (unconnected to Mormon polygamy or Muslim polygamy), the annual celebration subsequently blossomed into a nationwide, religiously-neutral celebration among all forms of consenting-adult pro-polygamists in their own local areas.
Polygamy Day ® is promoted by Polygamy Day, Inc. The corporation was formed in 2002 in the state of Maine. On "Polygamy Day 6," Polygamy Day, Inc. filed for the federal trademark. In a surprising twist, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially registered the corporation's trademark, Polygamy Day ®, on June 26, 2007 - the fourth anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision, Lawrence v. Texas.
Supporters and activists around the country individually use each August 19th to note the preceding year's political and legal progress toward freedom for unrelated consenting adult polygamy (UCAP). Then, individual strategies for the coming year of polygamy rights activism are also contemplated and organized.
